Cummin Parathas

These little triangle breads are the perfect addition to lots of meals and are quick and easy to make.


  • 180g Wholemeal Flour
  • 2tbs   Cumin Seeds
  • 1tbs   Vegetable Oil
  • 75ml   Tepid Water
  • Pinch Salt


  1. Place cumin seeds in a dry frying pan, toast until slightly brown.
  2. Grind toasted seeds in a mortar.
  3. Place flour, ground toasted cumin seeds and salt in a bowl.
  4. Drizzle the oil over the flour.
  5. Add the tepid water a little at a time until a firm dough is formed.
  6. Knead on a lightly floured board until smooth.
  7. Cover and leave for 30 min's
  8. Knead dough and divide into 6 equal pieces.
  9. Shape each one by rolling into a ball in the palm of your hand.
  10. Roll out on a floured surface to a 15cm round.
  11. Brush lightly with oil.
  12. Fold in Half, then in half again to form a triangle.
  13. Roll out until the triangle measures 18cm from point to centre of top.
  14. Place 2 or 3 Parathas in a large frying pan at a time and cook for 1or 2 min's on each side, brushing lightly with oil
Serve hot, can spread with honey, butter or jam if desired.
