This is a basic custard recipe and can be used a foundation for many desert dishes.

  • 2 tbs Sugar
  • 2 tbs Flour
  • 1 tbs Cornflour
  • 1/2 L Milk
  • 1 Egg Yolk
  • 1 tbs Butter
  • Vanilla Essence/Powder

Cooking instructions

  1. Mix sugar, flour and cornflour in bowl.
  2. Heat the milk in a saucepan until quite hot, not boiling.
  3. In a separate bowl mix a quarter of the heated milk with the egg yolk.
  4. Pour the egg yolk/milk mixture in to the bowl with dry ingredients.
  5. Mix well.
  6. Add this to the remaining milk in the saucepan.
  7. Cook on a high heat, stirring all the while until it thickens and coat's the spoon.
  8. Take off the heat add the butter and a little bit of vanilla.
  9. Mix well.
